SIDE EFFECTS - ARCHITECTURAL PHOTOGRAPHY

When I am out photographing architecture projects as commissioned work the task is to get a good portrait of the building, its design, materiality detailing and generally the ideas of the architect behind it. However, besides the more "conventional" photographies I always end up with various images, which in my mind I call side effects: Photographs of reflections, details or perspectives, which work as an image of its own right - rather than presenting an architectural consideration. They are a result of the mere pleasure of taking photographs - of the enjoyment of framing a detail, that surprises me, of enhancing certain view, of the joy of light and shadow play. At the same time, I often feel, that it is these images, that make out the essence of architecture and especially architectural detailing: achieving a certain atmosphere, setting the frame for something to happen, creating the grounds for life to take place in all its surprises, nuances and interactions.

All the images shown here are taken of architectural projects by RaW Architects in and around Copenhagen.
